Major General Alok Naresh, Inspector General of Assam Rifles (South) has felicitated Rifleman Abujam Roben Singh of Assam Rifles who was conferred "Jeevan Rakshak Padak" by the President on the 72nd Republic Day.
A press release issued by IGAR (S) said that Rifleman AR Singh was awarded the medal for saving the lives of two civil workers who received severe electric shocks near NRL Oil Pump at Singjamei Mayeng Leikai on March 24, 2020 .
He, while displaying exemplary sense of responsibility and bravery, extricated the civilians first and then evacuated them to a hospital, it said and added "For this act of bravery, Rifleman Abujam Roben Singh was awarded the Jeevan Raksha Padak on 26 January 2021".Rifleman AR Singh hails from Heirok Kaboleikai in Thoubal district.
He is the only person from the State to be awarded with this prestigious award this year.
Jeevan Raksha Padak is awarded for courage and promptitude in saving life under circumstances of grave bodily injury to the rescuer.
The award carries a medal and a certificate signed by the Union Home Minister along with a monetary grant.
