Governor urges beekeepers to produce more honey in State

The first state-level Honey Festival organized by Horticulture Mission for Northeast Himalayan States, Manipur and Manipur Beekeepers' Federation was inaugurated by Governor VK Duggal at Kangla Hall here today.
Speaking on the occasion as Chief Guest, Governor Duggal urged the beekeepers to adopt scientific methods and technology to enhance production of honey in the State.
The departments concerned should render necessary support and cooperation to the beekeepers besides imparting quality training on apiculture, he asserted.
President of Manipur Beekeepers' Federation S Nilakomol said that the federation is seriously concerned with the unemployment scenario of the State.
The unemployed youths could start the apiculture to earn their living.
Different places of hills and plains in the State are quite suitable for beekeeping, he added.
Attending as President of the inaugural function, ex-MP W Angou appealed to the beekeepers to avoid adulteration in order to market the best quality honey in the State.
The inaugural function was also attended by Commissioner of Science & Technology A Ibocha and Commissioner of Horticulture JC Ramthanga.
More than 30 stalls from different parts of the State are being opened at the three-day Honey Festival.
