Imphal, March 01 2014 :
The JAC formed against the molestation of a minor girl in Tamenglong last year has rejected the reported compromise made between the culprit and victim's families with the initiative of the Zeliangrong Union (AMN) on Feb 27 .
A statement issued by Abon Gonmei, member of the JAC, said that the JAC was shocked to learn that the molestation case of a minor was settled for Rs 1.50 lakh at the behest of ZU (AMN) at the Union office at Kakhulong on Feb 27 .
Saying that such unwarranted deal in sensitive and serious case would only encourage the rise of such criminal activities, the JAC said settlement of the case without any legal sanction would not be accepted by the JAC while pledging complete faith in the judicial system.
It may be mentioned that a 7-year old girl was molested by a rifleman of 5th MR, L Iboyaima Singh of Khurai Ningthou Leikai last year.
A case in this regard was registered with Tamenglong PS on Sept 13, 2013 .
The case has been pending in a Court and final verdict and judgement in the case is expected soon, the JAC said.
"The JAC will never accept and tolerate such illegal activities and as such necessary procedures as per law will be pursued to achieve justice.
Those people involved in the compromise deal is punishable under relevant law as their act is demeaning the proceeding of the law Court and also amounts to encouraging such crime," the JAC statement said.
At the same time, the JAC also urged for speedy expedition of the case for early disposal of the case for the sake of justice.
