Crackdown on Naga encroachers begins

Nagaland security force personnel came down heavily on the people from Nagaland encroaching the Assam land when the IRB (Indian Reserve Battalion) personnel resorted to blank-fires in the Nagaland side of the border adjacent to Shankar Tila border outpost of Assam police around 8.30 am today.
The IRB personnel's action came a day after the indefinite economic embargo was provisionally lifted by agitating civil societies of Karbi Anglong district (Assam) demanding proper step by Nagaland Government to stop massive encroachment of forest land inside Karbi Anglong district in Assam.
The IRB personnel while chasing away the encroachers also caught 8 persons from the spot who were later formally arrested and taken to Dimapur.
After the incident Nagaland IRB personnel have intensified patrolling near the Shankar Tila sector to avoid further incident.
It may be mentioned here that a Dimasa village near Lahorijan border outpost was burned down by a mob on last Tuesday.
Assam police and CRPF have been deployed in the sensitive areas across Karbi Anglong and Dimapur by Karbi Anglong administration after the firing incident and both government is monitoring the situation closely.
Chief Executive Member of Karbi Anglong Tuli Ram Ronghang and local MLA of Diphu Bidya Sing Engleng visited the troubled area today and confirmed that an all weather road will be constructed all along the border as the first step to improve border situation.
Meanwhile, today's incident in the Assam-Nagaland border has come a day after the indefinite economic blockade against Nagaland was lifted following the assurances from the district administration of both Assam's Karbi Anglong district and Nagaland's Dimapur district administration that they will look into the border impasse.
The indefinite economic blockade against Nagaland in both the National Highway 39 and NH-36 since February 25 was imposed by Karbi Students and Youth Council (KSYC), All Dimasa Students' Union (ADSU), All Assam Gurkha Students' Union (AAGSU), Karbi Unemployed Youth Association (KUYA), KSA, ADSU, AAGSU, Karbi Re-Awakening Organisation (KRAO) and United Students Union of Karbi Anglong (USUKA) in protest against the alleged encroachment of Assam's territory by people from Nagaland side.
On Friday, the Karbi Anglong based agitating organisations took a joint decision to lift the indefinite blockade against Nagaland from 7 am after assurances were given by the administrations of both Karbi Anglong (Assam) and Dimapur (Nagaland) that appropriate step will be initiated by Assam and Nagaland governments to prevent alleged encroachment of Assam's land by people of Nagaland side.
Both the Karbi Anglong district administration and Dimapur administration have also assured to give maximum efforts in maintaining peace in the trouble torn border eares of Assam and Nagaland.
