Thoubal, April 23 2021:
In spite of the tall 100 percent electrification claim of the Government, many remote villages near the Indo-Myanmar border under Khengjoi Sub Division, Chandel are still experiencing enforced darkness.
This deprivation of access to electricity was observed by a team of journalists and volunteers of Kuki Chief Association (KCA), Khengjoi Sub-Division and Kuki Students Organization (KSO), Khenjoi Block who went to inspect development projects at the border villages - Molcham, Yangoulen, Khengjang, T Nampao, New Samtal etc.
Speaking to journalists, chairman of KCA, Khengjoi Sub Division, Ngamkholun Haokip stated that only about 25 villages out of 80 under Khengjoi Sub Division have access to electricity.
Continuing that many of the households bought generators and solar lamps from the neighbouring country to meet their power demands, he urged the State Government to electrify the un-electrified villages under Khengjoi Sub Division within this year.
He also urged the State Government to set up one Lower Primary School at Moldernom Khul.
