Fitting tributes paid to Khongjom War heroes

Manipur today paid rich tributes to Khongjom War heroes, who valiantly fought against the British in the Anglo-Manipuri War of 1891, at Khongjom War Memorial Complex, Thoubal district.
Chief Minister N Biren Singh led the people in paying homage to the martyrs at the memorial complex on the 130th Khongjom Day.
Khongjom Day is observed every year on April 23 to commemorate the brave sons of Manipur who made the supreme sacrifice defending her freedom.
In view of the surging COVID-19 positive cases, the observance was toned down.
Besides the Chief Minister, MP Leishemba Sanajaoba, Deputy Chief Minister Y Joykumar, Cabinet Ministers, MLAs and top ranking police and civil officers and others paid floral tributes at the Khebaching memorial complex.
They also paid floral tributes to the statue of Paona Brajabashi, located at the foothills of Khebaching before they offered Tarpan at Khongjom River.

A contingent of Manipur Rifles sounded 'Last Post' and a 2-minute silence was observed in honour of the martyrs.
Speaking to media persons, Chief Minister N Biren Singh called on the people of the State to follow the footsteps of the forefathers with a sense of Nationalism and work together by maintaining unity among different communities for bringing peace and overall development in the State.
Works Minister Th Biswajit, Agriculture Minister O Lukhoi, Education Minister S Rajen, Forest Minister Awangbow Newmai, DGP LM Khaute also paid floral tributes to the martyrs.
Meanwhile, the Khongjom War Memorial Trust led by its president Moirangthem Hemanta also paid floral tributes to the martyrs at the Khongjom War Memorial Complex.
The Coalition Against Drugs and Alcohol (CADA) also commemorated the day and paid floral tributes to the photos of Paona Brajabashi, Tikendrajit and Thangal General at its head office at Pureilomba Khongnag Makhong near Palace Compound.
CADA vice president, Dipanjit Ningthoujam and its members were present.
