The Justice For Sanaton Athokpam (JFSA) has threatened to impose a 24 hour State-wide shutdown from April 26 night if the police do not register an FIR in the death case and act on its demands immediately.
In a statement issued by its convenor Moirangthem Loyalakpa today, the JFSA said it has taken a series of resolutions and decided to shutdown the State for 24 hours if the resolutions are not met by the authorities concerned and the Government.
Listing the resolutions, the Justice For Sanaton Athopkpam said the police have not yet filed an FIR in the case even after a written request was submitted earlier.
The police should register an FIR immediately and investigate the death of the medical student, it said.
Secondly, the Warden of the hostel where Sanaton was reportedly found dead should be interrogated.
Thirdly, RIMS Director and Dean (Academics) should be suspended immediately, said the JFSA.
Further, the Magisterial enquiry ordered to investigate the case has exhausted its stipulated time.
It should wrap up its investigation and submit its final report immediately.
The same report should be disclosed and intimated to the JFSA and the family members of the deceased.
Lastly, all those involved in the case should be identified, said the Justice For Sanaton Athokpam.
If the resolutions/demands are not fulfilled, then a 24 hour State-wide total shutdown will be imposed from 6 pm of April 26 to 6 pm of April 27, said the JFSA.
It may be noted that Sanaton Athokpam was a 5th Semester student at RIMS and he was found hanging inside a hostel at RIMS on March 15.Recently, a hearing in the Court of Chief Judicial Imphal West had revealed that Sanaton died of asphyxia and it was a case of "suicide" .
