Thoubal, May 22 2021:
One Laishram Meghachandra, who is managing committee member of Community Home Isolation Centre opened at DIET centre, Khangarok Chingol for Heirok assembly constituency, has said that the door of the centre is widely open for receiving donation from generous individuals who really want to help the poor and needy people in this hour of medical crisis.
Donation to the centre, however, should not be made in the name of political party or colour, Meghachandra told media persons during a press conference held on Saturday.
Strongly condemning the report that youth wing members of Heirok Block Congress Committee (HBCC) were denied entry to the isolation centre by MLA Th Radheshyam when they came for providing some donation on Friday, Meghachandra contended that some members of the HBCC came to donate edible items to patients currently sheltered at the centre in connection with 30th death anniversary of Rajiv Gandhi.
However, the centre does not belong to any political party and it would not be fair for the centre to link with any political party, he said, adding the centre wants to be free from any political party.
He also asked as to why the HBCC members came for donation only on the death anniversary day of Rajiv Gandhi and not on other days.
He also clarified that HBCC youth wing team was denied entry as they could be at risk to spread COVID-19.Meghachandra also said that the Community Home Isolation Centre is being run by a committee with MLA Radheshyam as chairman and the local MLA had utilised all his resources and manpower to tackle COVID-19 in the first wave by opening quarantine centre at the same DIET centre.
Noting that HBCC never came forth to donate or extend help but remained in a state of dormancy during the first wave, he asked as to why HBCC came to donate only on the day of death anniversary of Rajiv Gandhi.
The press conference was also attended by COVID-19 Task force Management Committee, Heirok chairman MLA Radheshyam, BJP Heirok Mandal president Th Chourjit and volunteers of the committee.
Meanwhile, the Task Force Management Committee on Saturday approved formation of Village/Ward Level Task Force in respective villages/ wards of the constituency during a meeting held at Khangarok Chingol Heirok on Saturday and attended by representatives of organisations and clubs in Heirok AC.
The meeting discussed the prevailing Covid-19 situation in the AC and reviewed the measures taken by the Task Force to address the issue.
The meeting also approved the steps taken up by the state government for containing the pandemic.
Speaking at the meeting, MLA Th Radheshyam appealed to public to strictly adhere to Covid-19 guidelines issued by the government and support the various steps taken by the Committee.
He mentioned that in the last few days, positive cases have come down in Bengi and Thokchom area under the AC and expressed confidence that the pandemic will soon be under control.
