Vaccination drive for drivers, shopkeepers in CCpur begins today

As the rate of infection of COVID-19 cases remains high in the state, Transport minister Vungzagin Valte, who is also the minister in-charge of Churachandpur and Pherzawl districts, is set to facilitate conduct of special vaccination drive for drivers and shopkeepers of the two districts.
The proposed vaccination drive was deliberated upon in a meeting held Wednesday at the DC's conference hall under the chairmanship of the minister.
The drive is part of the efforts to vaccinate the high risk group people and will be carried out from July 15 till 28.Addressing the meeting convened to review public transportation and conveyance in the districts, minister Vungzagin said that mass vaccination of the drivers and shopkeepers has emerged as the only defence against COVID-19 and pointed out that vaccination of drivers and shopkeepers would eventually mean greater safety for the public.
To facilitate the vaccination drive for shop keepers and drivers, the minister urged representatives from different transport association to submit the complete list of persons to the CMO or DC Office.
He also instructed the district administration to designate vaccination venues for the drivers and shopkeepers.
The minister instructed the shopkeepers and drivers to display the vaccination certificate in a prominent place for the people to see.
"Those who don't want to display the certificates in the shops or vehicles should cease to operate.
Appropriate action will be taken by the authority concerned against the defaulters," the minister asserted.
Officials of the district administration present at the meeting said that they have faced resistance in some villages within the district, but the team has been able to continue achieving the target of 1000 vaccinations per day.
The districts of Churachandpur and Pherzawl have so far registered inoculation of 78,303 and 10,142 persons respectively of which about 200 are drivers.
DC Pawan Yadav, ADC members Thangboi Gangte and Khaikhopau Ngaihte, ASP Lawrence K Munluo, presidents and secretaries of transport associations and DLOs from the departments concerned also attended the meeting.
