Imphal, March 14 2023:
Federation of Civil Society Organisations (FOCS), Manipur has asked non-indigenous people to stop interfering in internal matters of the state.
Addressing a press meet at its Wangkhei Ningthem Pukhri Mapal office premises here on Tuesday, FOCS president Th Manihar strongly decried attempt to incite communal tension among the indigenous communities of the state by some non-indigenous people, who arrived in the state after 1960 and said that FOCS will not remain silent over such acts.
He asked those people to uphold the unity, integrity and brotherhood of the state if they want to live in the state or else leave the state.
Manihar further said that non-natives, who came to the state from Myanmar and other places, have been trying to destabilise the state since the past few decades.
They are actively involved in setting up new settlements, renaming old names of places and falsification of historical backgrounds of Manipur as well as creating communal fissures among the indigenous communities of the state, who otherwise live peacefully while upholding the bond of brotherhood, said the FOCS president, while urging the government to take up appropriate actions before it turns ugly.
On the other hand, he said, the Manipur Land Revenue and Land Reforms Act, 1960, which is a legacy of Act enacted by colonial British rule, has become a cause for creating tension in the state.
Manihar suggested that the government amend the Act to ensure that every indigenous community has equal rights over the land of the state and also asked the government to expedite the process for constituting population commission.
