Imphal, May 12 2021:
Contending that Chief Minister N Biren Singh had taken up pre-emptive steps to prevent the outbreak of the second wave of Covid-19 pandemic in the state, BJP Manipur Pradesh spokesperson M Asnikumar has termed as disheartening that the situation is turning worse due to the people not following the government guidelines.
Speaking to The People's Chronicle with regard to the Government's efforts towards containing the pandemic, Asni-kumar, who is also MDS chairman, noted that many precautionary steps were taken up by the CM Biren-led government ahead of time.
However, all of these were in vain due to the complacency on the part of the people.
Laying the blame squarely on the people, the spokesperson remarked that the people refused to follow Covid guidelines, while many refused to get tested until they began showing symptoms.
As such, the rate of infection grew and now the hospitals are carrying the burden.
Such carelessness has also led to double-digit fatalities in a day, he added.
Stressing the need of increasing the contact tracing rate in the state, Asnikumar said that asymptomatic patients can consult doctors via telephone or video chat and begin home isolation at the earliest.
"One should go to the hospital only when it is absolutely necessary", he said.
Additionally, the youth should consider the safety of those below 18 years of age and elderly people and strictly adhere to the guidelines issued by the government, the spokesperson added.
Stating that it is unfortunate of Congress party to try and confuse the people instead of aiding the government in curbing the pandemic, Asnikumar elaborated that Congress first raised suspicions amongst the people over the efficacy of the vaccines produced in the country and then it then blamed the government, causing confusion among the people.
"BJP does not care about any claims made by Congress as it is only depicting the latter's true face to the people.
The pandemic has been raging for over a year now and one needs to question what has Congress done till date to help mitigate the pandemic.
Has Congress ever fulfilled its responsibility as the opposition?" he questioned.
Stating that Congress' sole agenda is to serve its own benefits, Asnikumar said that the party had reigned over the country for 70 years on this agenda.
It is up to the people to decide whether this will bring a change in the country that all of us so desperately desire for, he remarked.
