JCILPS's intensive survey to identify outsiders starts

As part of its prompt measures to monitor the rampant influx of outsiders into the State which has posed a serious threat to the existence of the indigenous people, the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) which is spearheading the demand for implementation of Inner Line Permit System has started conducting an intensive survey to identify non-locals staying in different parts of the State from today.
In this regard, the committee has appealed to clubs, civil society organizations including Meira Paibis to extend co-operation to the survey.
Addressing a press meet at its office located at Nongmeibung in Imphal East, BK Moirangcha, co-convener of JCILPS said that the committee has been demanding the government to implement the ILPS at the earliest taking due consideration of the unchecked entry of outsiders into the State which has now reached to an alarming state.

He pointed out that the survey was launched from today with an eye on identifying non-locals residing in different parts of the State illegally and informed media persons that the survey was started from Imphal East area during which many non-locals were found staying without possessing proper identification documents. To the committee's surprise, several non-locals were found possessing forged driving license and voter I/D during the survey which was taken part by volunteers of Joint Committee on Non-Manipuri Survey Work, an apex body of five club and Meira Paibi organizations of Chingmeirong; he disclosed. Maintaining that the intensive survey will be conducted in all the 60 constituencies, he appealed to the people to hand over those non-locals who were found without voter I/D issued by their respective State governments to the committee or nearest police station for further necessary steps. Appropriate action will be taken up against those outsiders who were found possessing forged voter I/D and enrolling in the State electoral list, the co-convener cautioned. Appealing to all concerned not to issue forged voter I/D, driving license and domicile certificate to non-locals, he warned that the committee will take up strict action against those who found doing the same. He added that second day of the survey will cover Imphal West areas.
