Chingai AC MLA Khashim Vashum on Saturday donated an ambulance to the Primary Health Centre (CHC) in Somdal village, giving impetus for the healthcare workers and inhabitants of the western region in combating the Covid-19 outbreak.
The MLA handed over the key of the vehicle to Somdal village chairman Pamrei Ruivah who received the same on behalf of the CHC during a simple ceremony held at Vaomalan hall in Somdal village.
Local Pastor Rev Aping Khamrang invoked the Almighty's blessings for the vehicle to be instrumental in saving lives.
Speaking on the occasion, Khashim expressed hope that the ambulance would help the doctors and nurses stationed at the CHC in fighting against the viral disease.
Khashim then recalled the CHC as one of the oldest healthcare institutes which has continued to render basic healthcare services to many villages in the western region since its earlier days as a Primary Health Centre (PHC) .
Relating that he gave priority to up-gradation of the centre to CHC which was necessitated to meet healthcare needs of the growing population in the region, Khashim said that he had relentlessly pursued until its materialisation in 2017 .
In his speech, Pamrei Ruivah, on behalf of Somdal and neighbouring villages, expressed gratitude to the MLA for his concerns for the villagers which have come in the shape of much-anticipated up-gradation of Somdal PHC to CHC and for donating the ambulance when the healthcare centre needed it most.
It may be recalled that the foundation stone for the CHC was laid by Health & Family Welfare minister Jayantakumar in the presence of MLA Khashim himself on July 5 in 2018.SDO LM Block Nimmi Khamrang, former ADC Thanchipem Jagoi, headman Phungnang Ruivah, headman and chairman of Phalee village, CHC staffers, NPF Chingai working president Shangreingam Vashum and general secretary Y Ngachonmi and NPF Ukhrul Division general secretary Yangmi Ruivah, and others attended the event.
