AR seizes contraband medicines worth 2 crores

Imphal, June 07 2012:
Trosops of 9 Assam Rifles of 26 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) seized a large consignment of Pseudoephedrine Hydrochloride based medicines (174 kgs) being smuggled into Myanmar via Moreh and apprehended two drug peddlers at approximately 11:30 am yesterday, according to a press release of PRO IGAR (S) .
The apprehended persons were identified as Samueal (36) son of Thanghulh of Dalpatti, Ward No-2 Moreh and Thangkhosei (43) son of Late Thongkhojam of the same locality.
In another incident at around 12:30 pm, troops of 24 Assam Rifles of 26 Sector Assam Rifles also seized 300 kgs of contraband Pseudoephedrine Hydrochloride medicines being illegally ferried from Imphal towards Moreh and beyond at Lokchao on the same day.
Total worth of seized banned/illegal tablets would be more than Rupees two crores.
The apprehended persons were identified as S Lhunkhohou Haokip (22) son of S Tongkhothang Haokip of Tengnoupal, Chandel Dist and S Tilkhothang Mate (18) son of S Tongkhoses Mate of Tengnoupal, Chandel Dist.
The apprehended persons alongwith contraband drugs were handed over to office of the Narcotic Control Bureau, Imphal (Manipur) by Assam Rifles, the release added.
Meanwhile, 27 AR of 9 Sector under HQ IGAR (South) organised an interactive session with the Meira Paibis of Topkaching village at Western Valley Area in Chandel District today.
The gathering comprised of team from 27 AR, Meira Paibis and other women dignitaries of the area.
Furthermore, 27 Assam Rifles promised all possible assistance in future ventures of the Meira Paibi organization, a PRO IGAR (S) press release stated.
