93 year old Rishang Keishing was re-elected to the Parliamentary in the 1962-67 term and he continues to be the Rajya Sabha representative from Manipur since 2002 .
He was also at the helm of affairs in the State as the Chief Minister for many years in addition to being the Deputy Chief Minister during the 1992 term.
The Rishang factor is considered to be the crux for the Congress party becoming a force to reckon with in the State's political scenario as it was during his stewardship both as the State Congress chief and Chief Minister that the Congress organisation gained strength.
