Imphal, June 07 2012:
The State Government has written to the Union Home Ministry seeking its approval to open a complete immigration office at Moreh in order to boost and facilitate Indo-Myanmar border trade.
The letter written by the Principal Secretary (Home) informed the Union Home Ministry about the hindrances posed to the border trade due to absence of a fully functional immigration office at Moreh.
It also conveyed about the State Government's readiness to provide rooms necessary for the immigration office.
In the absence of immigration office, Myanmarese nationals are being detained everyday when they visit Moreh which is detrimental to the cross-border trade.
However, there has been no response from the Union Home Ministry till date.
Notably, the Government of Myanmar has already introduced a new systems Indians coming to their side through Moreh are given visas on arrival.
