DESAM shut down Ayurvedic Clinic

An Ayurvedic Clinic at Thangal Bazaar, Imphal, which was found supplying expired medicines has been closed down by volunteers of DESAM.
Addressing media persons in this regard, A Thoithoi, Secretary General, DESAM, stated that one Laitonjam Itobi of Mongjam Mamang Leikai was prescribed a medicine when he went for treatment at Uma Ayurvedic Clinic which is located at Thangal Bazaar on September 10 .
There he was injected a medicine by one Vat Vinasak.
After the injection, Itobi experienced swelling of his body parts.
The company producing the medicine is Bumlelkhand Pharma Jhansi (UP) .
When the matter was brought to the notice of DESAM, its volunteers went to the clinic and found that the said medicine was wrapped in two covers.
The expiry date written on the inner cover was February 2013 .
However, it was written as May 2013 on the outer cover.
The price label was also differently tagged on both the covers, Thoithoi said.
He went on to say that since the the sale of the expired medicines is against the law and is also harmful to the human body, DESAM has banned sale of the medicine all the pharmacies.
Moreover, the clinic has been banned from rendering service to the people until a clearance over the issue is received from the company manufacturing the medicine.
It is said that the clinic in question is run by one Dr (Vaid) RN Gupta (AAMS.
