Banned tobacco products seized by Hiyanglam police in June last and handed over to Thoubal district unit of Food Safety Standards Wing have been consigned to the flames at Thoubal khunou today.
According to CMO Designated Officer (Food Safety), Thoubal district kh Radheshyam Singh a team of Hiyanglam police station led by its Officer in-charge Inspector Kh Devkumar Singh deployed for frisking and checking duty near Pole Star College, Wabagai recovered the banned tobacco products from a silver colour Maruti Van (AS03/F-1199) at around 9.30 am of June 22, 2013 .
The recovered items worth about Rs 5 lakh in the international market include 350 Zafari Zarda, 36 boxes of Golden Tobacco and 208 packets of Talab Gutkha.
Apart from district officials, Food Safety officers of Imphal West, Churachandpur and Chandel districts were present at the disposal site.
