Threat calls to hawkers, journalists : One member of group responsible held

An individual who made threatening calls to journalists and newspaper distributors sometime back has been apprehended by Imphal West District Police.
Briefing media persons at his office this evening, Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Gaikhangam informed media persons about the breakthrough arrest.
He stated that police have been working hard to nab those elements who have been intimidating media houses, journalists and newspaper distributors.
The arrested individual has been identified as one Thokchom Priyokumar alias Pathoi (30) of Hayen Hangul near Uchiwa Lai Umang.
He was apprehended by a commando team led by Imphal West DSP (Cdo) S Ibomcha from Kakching Khunou at about 2.30 pm.
After completing BE course from Manipur Institute of Technology, Priyokumar alias Pathoi was working as a technical staff at Infratel.
His arrest is a major breakthrough, remarked the Deputy Chief Minister.
Some equipments were also seized from the possession of Priyokumar and further investigation is on.
On being asked about some unscrupulous elements collecting money from prospective beneficiaries of National Food Security scheme, Gaikhangam clarified that every one who applied for the scheme would not be necessarily selected.
The beneficiaries would be selected after screening by a team of officers.
Moreover, befitting actions would be initiated against all wrongdoers, added the
Deputy Chief Minister.
