Imphal, September 27 2013 :
The North East Regional Review Meeting on Intensive dairy Development Programme (IDDP) was held at Classic Hotel here yesterday.
The meeting was chaired by Ms Rajni Sekhri Sibbal, IAS, Joint Secretary(C &DD), Ministry of Agriculture, Govt.of India.
The review meeting was attended by senior officers related to Dairy Development from the states of Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim.
The Meeting reviewed the good and growing dairy industry in the North East Region, especially in the last 10 years.
NE Region and the State holds huge dairy development potential and marketing scope.
But the growing production in the region still substantially fall short of the ever-growing demand for milk and milk products, resulting in substantial import of dairy products from outside NE Region.
The meeting noted that concerted efforts by all concerned including IDDP will go a long way to further boost up production and dairying culture in the region.
The long term objective is that the region becomes self sufficient and eventually even export some day.
Given the present trend, this could become a reality in the days to come.
For this, the Milk Producers Cooperative Societies and farmers have a major role and responsibility, according to a statement issued by Commissioner of Cooperation K Moses Chalai.
