Imphal, June 20 2012:
The Naga People's Organisation (NPO) has accused the state government of using certain 'valley based NGOs to serves its purpose' .
The NPO, the apex body of Naga tribes in Senapati district said the decision of the Tansporters and Drivers Council (TDC) not to lift goods from godowns in Imphal in protest against the recent notification issued by FCI general secretary at Dimapur that 80 per cent of FCI goods from outside the state should be transported along the Imphal-Dimapur road, also called NH-2 (formerly NH-39) while 20 per cent through the Imphal-Jiribam road, also known as NH-37 (formerly NH-53) is questionable.
With certain organisations supporting of TDC's stand not to ply on NH-2 for unloading of FCS due to the alleged problems faced along the NH-2 by the transporters, the Naga People's Organization (NPO) questions the hidden motives of the TDC and its relevance of their 'unrealistic' decisions.
"The all out support of the present State Government extended to an NGO like TDC's demand rather than safeguarding and developing the lifeline of the state NH-2 is 'unfortunate and disturbing', NPO said.
Sidelining the importance of equally developing the State highways and instigating communal lines of policies through valley based NGOs by the State Government will not be tolerated.
The NPO demands the TDC to be clear and honest on the matter rather than pointing fingers only on blockades and taxations along the NH-2 which is also a regular happening even in the valley and NH-37," the Naga body said.
With the inaugurated railway project at Karong finally diverted at the wimps and fancy of the majority community ruled Manipur Government, the collaborative designs of the Government machineries and TDC to again divert funds and development of NH-2 to NH-37 is questionable, said the NPO.
The NPO further questions the integrity of the TDC that has campaign for developing only NH-37 since 2010 while transporting all essential goods through NH-2 which is in deplorable and deteriorating state of condition.
Such immature move of the TDC to play blame-game on the NH-2's taxes, insecurity and blockade rather than pointing its finger at the weakness of the State Government will only invite communal divide among the people rather than solving the crisis.
The NPO appeals before the intellectual/think tank community in the valley to study and express their wisdom on the present situation created by the State Government through NGO's like TDC and others, so as to bridge better communication among the different communities of the state.
It is not against the development of an alternate route like NH-37 but against the communal designs of any group to create misunderstandings among the people of the state, the NPO added.
