LLLPC decries land acquisition for SEZ

The land owners affected by the proposed Special Economic Zone (SEZ) project under the banner of "Lemba Laijing Loukon Protection Committee" on Sunday staged a sit-in at Kakching Lamkhai.
The sit-in-protest was held against the Government decision to acquire 450 Acres of agricultural land forcibly in between Kakching Lamkhai and Kuraopokpi in Thoubal District for construction of the proposed multi-product Special Economic Zone (SEZ) .
Speaking on the sideline of the sit-in, Assistant Secretary of the Committee N Amuyaima Singh said that the Committee was formed following the issuance of a notification for acquiring 450 Acres of agricultural and farm land at Lemba Laijing loukon area on December 10, 2013 by the Deputy Commissioner of Thoubal.
Since then, the Committee has submitted several memoranda to the DC Thoubal and State government to revoke the decision to acquire the said agricultural land, he added.
Amuyaima further stated that in the midst of such volatile situation, some unknown persons without the knowledge of the affected land owners gave their consent to acquire the said agricultural land for setting up the SEZ to the Union Minister of Commerce and Industry during her recent visit and inspecting the propose site, while the genuine land owners were detained at Kakching Lamkhai and not allowed us to meet the visiting Minister during her recent visit, he lamented.
The Committee said will intensify the stir if the government goes ahead with its decision.
