Imphal, May 23 2009:
The policy programme of the AMADA is quite different to that of the excise department of the state government as the later is do their activities to achieve their revenue target stated AMADA in a statement today reacting to the excise department's proposal to go hand in hand with the former while curbing abuse of drugs, narcotic and alcohol in the state.
The statement of the AMADA said that from the passed experience, the association well understood that the objective of eliminating the habit of drug abuse and alcohol could not be achieved by taking fine after catching those abusers and traffickers.
By knowing this, AMADA do not imposed fine of any kind and with a determination to eliminate such intoxicant items, the association is conducting drive and campaign to bring understand on the loss of the intoxicant items to society.
There is gulf of different between the mode of drive conducting by AMADA and excise department as the department is doing their duty to achieve the target set by the state government.
It is sure to have some wrong step on the AMADA side while performing activities to achieve the target of eliminating intoxicant items from the soil of the state but it will be wrong to say wrong to the policy programme of the association.
The security force handing over liquors and other items seized by them to AMADA, itself showed that its volunteers are performing activities with firm determinations and with sincerely.
Volunteers of AMADA are doing their activities with a firm determination and sacrifice but the duty of the personnel of the excise department is to collect fine as revenue from the items seized by them.
To go hand in hand between to groups, to have a common policy programme is a must.
So it will not be possible for the excise department to go together with AMADA.
But the association thanks, excise department for their effort and extended hand.
