Imphal, May 23 2009:
The Ethno Heritage Council (HERICOUN) insisted the Manipur government to book the criminals involved in the killing of a state native lass in the National Capital few days back.
A statement issued by the secretary of publicity and propaganda, HERICOUN, Laishram Sanajaoba Meetei orchestrates that the Manipur government should not let the issue of killing a tribal girl in Delhi unattended while demanding the culprits be produced.
The statement lamented that the state government remains to be a mute spectator when students and employees from the state, especially women, were harassed, molested and killed at various places outside the state while the government has stepped up security measures for the protection of non-locals in the wake of the killings in the state recently.
Saying that the killing of the tribal girl in a highly suspicious manner in Delhi last week was not the first instance wherein North East students endure atrocities in the hands of others, the HERICOUN statement asserts that the North East communities have been perceived differently by mainland people.
L Sanajaoba Meetei also stated that the governments in the region lack conscientiousness in tackling and responding to issues of atrocities meted out to the North East people.
