CM bats for scientific research : National Seminar On Science & Technology concludes

Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh on Friday said there was a need to encourage scientific research and called for sustained focus on pure and applied sciences.
The Chief Minister was addressing the valedictory function at the National Seminar on Science & Technology for Human Development held at the Court Room of Vice Chancellor's Secretariat at Manipur University (MU) as the Chief Guest.
Speaking on the occasion, Okram Ibobi appreciated the organisers for successfully holding such a National Seminar and said it would immensely boost the effort to popularize and promote science in the State.
He also appealed to the university authority to provide congenial atmosphere for the students, scholars and young scientists who were being trained in various scientific disciplines.
Expressing concern over the current practice of constructing buildings and residential complexes in the State, particularly in urban and city areas, the Chief Minister stated that his government is willing to set up an Eco-Friendly Housing Policy where every house or building will have the provision to produce power through solar energy.
Okram Ibobi said that his government is ready to extend help and join hands in any scientific approach focused on sustainable development for the welfare of the masses.
The Chief Minister also welcomed suggestions on the Information Technology (IT) Policy adopted by the State.
The valedictory function was presided by Prof.HNK Sharma, Vice Chancellor, Manipur University.
On the occasion, Young Scientist Awards were also presented to four scholars/scientists.
The Awards which carry a cash reward of Rs 5000, a Citation and a Memento each were handed over to the young scientists by the Chief Minister.
The recipients included Saikat Kumar Seth of Indian Association of Cultivation of Sciences, Kolkata for the project 'Polymorphism in unusual Ni(II)-IDA complex: A novel polymorph of Diaquaiminodiacetatonickel (II)'; Ksh.
Beliya Luxmi of Department of Anthropology, Manipur University for 'Estimation of Stature Using Different Body Dimensions Among the Kabui Naga males of Tamenglong, Manipur'; Shyam Maisnam of Department of Life Sciences, Manipur University for 'Faunistic Diversity of Thrips (Insecta: Thysanoptera) in the Itanagar Wildlife Sanctuary of Arunachal Pradesh' and Yumnam Bembem of Department of Mathematics for 'Cosmological models with variable G and A', also of Manipur University.
The three-day seminar was jointly organised by Indian Science Congress Association, Imphal Chapter and Manipur University and sponsored by the Indian Science Congress Association (ISCA).
This is the second time such seminar was being held at Manipur University.
