Student killed; four injured in police action at Lilong
Curfew clamped to quell public outcry

Imphal, January 23 2015 :
A student studying in class VII lost his life while four other people including a 7-year old girl sustained injuries when police fired tear gas canisters, mock bombs and rubber bullets to disperse protestors who were blocking at Lilong area on Friday.
Demanding expansion of the National Highway (Imphal-Moreh Road) from Lilong bridge to Waithou, Lilong United Political Link called an indefinite bandh along the Imphal-Moreh Road with effect from 6 am on Friday.
In response to the bandh call, many locals came out to block the road.
At around 4.30 pm, a police team came to clear the road and in an attempt to disperse the bandh supporters resorted to firing tear gas canisters, mock bombs and rubber bullets.
In the police action, 13-year old Md.Imtiyas Khan alias Apombi s/o Mayangmayum Zakir of Lilong Ubakthong was killed.
He was walking when the stray rubber bullets fired by the police hit him near a spot at Lilong Kaleikhong Makok, around 400 metres away from Lilong Haoreibi college towards Imphal on western side of the national highway.
Imtiyas was studying in class VII in Islamic Baby English School.
Four other people including a 7-year old girl were also sustained injuries in the incident.
The injured identified as Sonia (7) d/o Md Mohammad of Lilong Loumanga, Md Hahiya Khan (17) s/o Md Sana of Lilong Tolen Khul, Md Altaf (21) of Lilong Mairenkhun and Md Aziz alias Tomba (13) s/o Md Salauddin of Lilong Chingkham Maning have been admitted for treatment at Public Hospital, Hatta Golapati here.
Meanwhile, in view of the rising tension, the district administration has clamped curfew with effect from 6.60 pm in Lilong area.
