1st convocation of NIT Manipur held at Langol Campus

Observing that production of good students would attract companies from outside to come for campus recruitment, Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh on Friday called upon all concerned for making the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Manipur one of the top most institutes in the Northeast region.
Speaking as chief guest during the 1st convocation ceremony of NIT Manipur at its Langol campus, Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh reiterated that the State Government has been giving priority towards the development of education in the State and all out efforts are being made for ensuring the required infrastructure at NIT Manipur.
The Chief Minister observed that there may be various educational institutes in Manipur today.
But they need to be developed even more.
This includes NIT Manipur.
Production of many good students from NIT Manipur would encourage companies from outside to come for campus recruitment.

The Chief Minister also called upon the people for co-operation and support in the developmental works being taken up by the Government.
Education Minister M Okendro, who was present during the convocation ceremony as guest of honour, informed the gathering that many students who have passed out from NIT Manipur are today working in large companies including IBM, Phillips, Nokia, etc outside the State.
The Minister hoped that the institute would continue to produce more brilliant students to keep alive the name of Manipur as a destination for education.
In his presidential address, Director of NIT Manipur Dr S Birendra recalled that the institute started functioning from its temporary campus at Takyelpat in 2010 and from 2013 PhD programme has been added.
At present, there are 41 PhD scholars in the institute which has a total of 53 faculties including 20 regular ones, the Director said.
Prof Bikash Sinha from Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India and Chairman of Board of Governors of NIT Manipur Prof Yagnaswami Sundara Rajan were also present during the convocation during which degrees were awarded to around 60 students of the institute.
