Imphal, October 01 2009:
The Federation of Regional Indigenous Society (FREINDS) today claimed that the body on time detection of trying to study MBBS on Manipur quota by a non-Manipuri at North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Science (NEIGRIHMS), Shillong, Meghalaya could safe the seat.
One Dallika Dehury daughter of Ghanasham Dehury coming from Orissa and staying at Thangmeiband Polem Leikai ward no.III with a residential certificate issued by commissioner S Surangini tried to study the course out of 18 seats reserved for the north east as quota from Manipur state.
She was selected for study of MBBS in the institute at 15th rank.
On getting the information, FREINDS immediately sent a fax massage to the director, NEIGRIMHS not to allot the 18 seat reserved for north east to any other coming from outside the region.
A copy of the same was also forwarded to the Imphal west.
The same was also reported to local and national media outside the state.
The director in turn intimated Imphal West DC, A Ibomcha to investigate into the matter which he clearly replied that Dallika Debury is from Orissa, she has no permanent resident in Manipur.
The DC also informed that she has no rights to issue the permanent residential certificate from the state.
The case is a warning to the people of the state to have a close vigilance on the activities of outsiders.
In order to stop such incident of snatching state quotas, there arose the need of inclusion of non-locals in the voter list of the state, the FREINDS in a statement signed by its publicity secretary, RK Sadananda cautioned.
