IGAR (S) Maj Gen AK Choudhary, AVSM, SM, VSM and Chief Secretary of Manipur DS Poonia visited Khengjoi and Sejlon in Chandel district today.
According to a statement issued by PRO Assam Rifles, these two villages of the Dingpi/Samtal region are part of 26 Sector Assam Rifles area of responsibility and one of the most under-developed, neglected and remote areas in Manipur.
Due to militancy and non-existence of Government administrtive set up, the people have been languishing in extreme poverty and hopelessness.
26 Sector Assam Rifles has been conducting relentless proactive counter insurgency operations to ensure a safe and secure environment for developmental activities to take place.
Through Military Civic Action (MCA) projects, the area has been specifically addressed and projects like solar street lights, water supply schemes and community halls have been completed.
The visit of IGAR (S) and the Chief Secretary was a boost to the morale of the local populace, the PRO said, adding that the IGAR (S) and the Chief Secretary interacted with the local village chiefs and assured them of continued Government support in their quest for development of the region.
The IGAR(S) also exhorted the local youth to form the bedrock, on whose initiative and active participa tion, the development of the region depends.
The Chief Secretary and the IGAR (S) also reviewed the security situation in the area and were appreciative of the efforts of AR and local community leaders in maintaining peace and tranquillity in the region.
