The legal department of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has filed an RTI application to the SPs of Imphal East and Imphal West respectively, enquiring whether any action had been taken against Chief Minister N Biren Singh and Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) Manipur president M Barish Sharma, with regard to a complaint made by MPCC for registering an FIR against the two for their "harmful" statements and actions.
In the RTI plea filed to SPIO and SP Imphal East, MPCC legal department vice-chairman advocate Rabi Khan enquired whether an FIR had been registered in connection with a complaint made by the MPCC legal department to the DGP on May 23, in addition to seeking details of the FIR, if it had been registered.
Mention may be made here that MPCC legal department had hied a written complaint to the DGP seeking legal action against CM Biren for alleged statements made publicly supporting corruption.
On May 3, the CM attended the inauguration function of a 10-bedded ICU unit and Tele-ICU at JNIMS, wherein he delivered a speech and allegedly voiced his support related to cash-for vote.
The MPCC legal department further enquired whether an FIR was registered against BJYM Manipur president M Barish Sharma, who was involved in the violent attack at MPPC office on evening of January 6, as a follow up to a written complaint hied to City PS.
If an FIR had indeed been registered, the department requested SP Imphal West to provide the detailed information and documents of the same.
As per MPCC's complaint to City PS, a group of 20-30 people led by BJYM Manipur president M Barish Sharma, armed with dangerous weapons, attacked the gate of MPCC's office on the night of January 6.The group not only hurled verbal insults at the office bearers of Youth Congress and NSUI but also physically assaulted them.
They (Barish's group) then went on to burn effigies at MPCC office and tried to incite more violence.
