Imphal, June 29 2022:
Luangchum Youth Club has alleged substandard quality in the ongoing road blacktopping work of NH-37 (formerly NH-53 road) under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sevak Yojana (PMGSY) in Awangkhul area under Noney district.
The blacktopping work was done by contractor L Romesh under the project funded by ministry of Rural Development.
According to the club, the contractor and authorities concerned have flouted the standard guidelines of blacktopping, which include bituminous layer of 20 mm thickness and others.
The LYC members led by its president Chungapou Gonmei inspected the blacktopping work on Wednesday.
During the visit, Chungapou pointed out to media persons that several places and portions of the road which were completed just two-three months ago have developed cracks primarily due to non-maintenance of quality by the contractors.
He then appealed to the concerned authorities to maintain quality of the ongoing road blacktopping.
"If the blacktopping is not done in accordance with the guidelines of PMGSY, Luangchum Youth Club will approach the higher authorities to seek action", said the president and also urged the department concerned not to release the final bills before the completion of blacktopping work.
The Club also warned of launching various forms of democratic agitations if the department and higher authority fail to look into their demand to maintain standard work quality.
