Campaign for disturbance-free education continues

Imphal, June 29 2022: In continuation of the campaign launched by Coordinating Committee on Disturbance Free Educational Zone aimed at promoting conducive atmosphere in educational institutions and addressing infrastructure deficiencies, students of Samusang Santipur Upper Primary School along with their parents staged demonstration by formed human chain on Wednesday.

During the demonstration, the participants Called for a disturbance free educational zone, ensuring right to education, installation of requisite infrastructures in educational institutions, providing safe drinking water and ensuring presence of requisite teachers among other demands.

Speaking on the sidelines of the demonstration, DESAM secretary education Solomon Luwang reiterated that the Committee has been demanding for a disturbance free education sector since 20Q8.In continuation of this demand, an awareness campaign was launched on June 15 and a human chain protest was carried out at Samusang Santipur Upper Primary School on Wednesday.

Solomon then recounted that when the Committee reached the school, they found it lacking adequate desks and benches, not to mention of the necessary number of teachers.

He remarked that there are only 3517 government graduate teachers in the state instead of the requisite number of 6828.There are supposed to be 8364 primary teachers, but only 5606 are present.

At the lecturer level only 1943 of the 2484 teachers are present, thereby making it difficult to operate government schools.

Thus, he drew the attention of the government for addressing the shortages of teachers and ensuring rights of the students to universal education.
