Imphal, June 29 2022:
Fatherland Patriots' Memorial Club has appealed to the state gov ernment to relocate the brick farm and ply factory set up adjacent to Khongjom Water supply project on the ground that these factories are becoming a major cause of pollution.
Addressing a press meet at Manipur Press Club here on Wednesday, club secretary Olen Sapam said that the local residents are worried over the pollution in water and air due to the brick farm and ply factory located within zero kilometre of the water supply project.
Amid such a situation, the club has learnt that some individuals filed a proposal to the government for developing the area into a minor industrial estate, he said, while urging the government not to entertain such proposals.
The hill range near which the water supply project is located is a state land as per Manipur Land Revenue and Reforms Act, 1960.The brick farm and ply factory are also constructed on paddy land while violating the Manipur Conservation of Paddy Land and Wetlands Act, 2014, he said, while cautioning of launching intense forms of agitation if the government does not take up necessary measures for relocating the two factories or make any attempt to develop mini industrial estate in the area.
