Imphal, July 19 2021:
BJP Manipur Pradesh chief spokesperson Chongtham Bijoy has resigned from the post stating that he took the decision in line with the party's policy as he is going to contest the upcoming state assembly election from Uripok assembly constituency.
In a telephonic interview with The People's Chronicle, Bijoy said that he joined BJP in 1994-95 and there was a good culture within the party during the time of former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Lal Krishna Advani.
Under their guidance, the party set a rule that if one is willing to contest election then he/she should resign from any post of the party six months prior to the election.
Though the rule is not in the party's constitution but it remains as a convention of the party.
Unfortunately, the new members seem to forget this rule and it is time to remind them, he said and added that this is the reason behind his resignation.
This convention led the party to power in a very short period by defeating a large and strong party like Congress.
He still believes in BJP's ideologies, stands against VIP culture, upholds cadre-based organisational structure, believes in values and issue-based politics, and wants to remind the party members of such values.
A new trend of new members lining up to meet party leaders visiting the state seeking favour for certain posts and getting party tickets is emerging in the state.
His resignation is also an example to show that one can serve the society and work for the party without holding any post, he said.
Maintaining that eradication of corruption should begin with election, Bijoy said that he wants to fight the election in a free and fair manner and to stand against money and muscle power.
Several intending candidates from Uripok AC are seeking BJP tickets and they are even claiming that they will definitely get the party ticket.
However, he is confident that he will get the ticket keeping in view of his loyalty to the party, Bijoy affirmed.
