Ukhrul celebrates best ever Independence Day

The 66th Independence Day in Ukhrul was the best ever celebration ever witnessed by the public with huge turnout from every nook and corner of the district headquarters at Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) ground on Wednesday.
Deputy Commissioner R.Sudhan graced the occasion as the chief guest and took the salute as 63 contingents from schools, colleges and armed forces of Ukhrul marched passed through the fluttering tri-colour standing by the podium at TNL ground.
In his Independence Day's address, Sudhan said that the people of Ukhrul district are peace-loving and endowed with sporting and musical talent.
To make the district more progressive in various fronts, he urged upon the public to show utmost sincerity and extend cooperation towards the development efforts being undertaken through the governments.
Further, he asked the various departments in the district to perform their duties accordingly with full devotion to public progress.
Ukhrul AC MLA Samuel Risom also attended the celebration and gave away the prizes on the occasion.
The day witnessed more than 10000 people turning up for the celebration with the public claiming it the best ever Independence Day in Ukhrul On the auspicious occasion, the Hungpung youths performed the folk dance while Kendriya Vidyala Sangathan (KVS) students charmed the crowd with the rendition of a song and the rhythmic tunes of the band party from 17 Assam Rifle, Somsai enthralled the audience.
In the March Pass parade, Sacred Heart Higher Secondary School bagged the first place while contingents from Savio High School secured the second and third position respectively in NCC Scout and Guides category.
In Junior's Girls category, the Achan English School secured first position while Ukhrul Public School and OTC Junior School won the second and third place respectively.
In Junior Boy's section, Ukhrul Central School came first with Achan English School and Oriental Naga Academy in second and third place respectively.
In Senior Girl's competition, Ukhrul Public School secured the first place while St.
George School and Patkai Christian Academy bagged the second and third place.
In Senior Boy's, Little Angels' English School won the first place while Patkai Christian Academy came second and Ukhrul Public School in third.
