Imphal, September 13 2011:
Reacting against the allegations made by KSO which appeared in local dailies, the PRO, HQ IGAR (South) in a press release said that the allegation of accepting money for safe passage of civil vehicles is false and baseless.
PRO, HQ IGAR (S) in a press release stated that AR requires 70 to 80 trucks loads of rations per week to feed its troops deployed in Manipur.
"As per contract provisions, the rations are required to be delivered by the contractors in their civil trucks to unit locations spread all over the state" the release added.
Since the civil trucks carrying rations for the troops are unable to ferry in the state due to the ongoing economic blockades on the highway, the AR convoys bring them in along with them.
The mob blocking the traffic on the highway did not understand that the ration required to feed the troops in the state is so large, it stated.
The release further added "It is also an irony that the same mob which is so inhuman and ruthless that they do not permit even oxygen cylinders for life saving surgery in hospitals of Manipur, point their fingers at Assam Rifles for taking money for safe passage of trucks" .
