Imphal, September 13 2011:
With the Sadar Hills Districthood Demand Committee urging the people to take to arms to pursue their demand, the State Government has finally decided to crack the whip, after pussy footing the issue for over 40 days.
Talking to reporters after a Cabinet meeting, Government spokesperson, N Biren said that taking serious note of the open call to take to arms, the Cabinet has decided to take up some tough measures to rein in the SHDDC leaders.
Asserting that such things cannot be allowed in a democracy, Biren said that the Additional District Magistrate at Kangpokpi has been instructed to notify the people to submit their licensed guns at the Kangpokpi police station.
The DGP has also been instructed to get in touch with the SP of Senapati and Additional SP of Kangpokpi to file FIR cases against the leaders of SHDDC and take up necessary action.
An official source however informed The Sangai Express that records of the licensed guns at Sadar Hills are shabby.
It is not clear whether the records have been updated or not, and anyway most of the records have been burnt in the ongoing agitation wherein a number of Government offices were torched.

With the SHDDC flatly rejecting the proposal of the Government to constitute the Committee on Re-organisation of Administrative and Police District Boundary, the spokesman reiterated that this is purely for administrative convenience.
Towards this end, the Cabinet has decided to instruct the Committee to include in its reports places or settlements, which are oddly placed with respect to their district headquarters.
The Committee on boundary is not meant only for Sadar Hills, he asserted.
On the ultimatum served by the Jiribam District Demand Committee to impose a blockade on NH-37 from September 16 to 23, Biren said that the Government is keeping all its avenues open to work out an agreement.
The Cabinet also discussed on ensuring uninterrupted supply of essential commodities to the State.
At the moment fuel is being rationed.
