Imphal, September 13 2011:
A high level meeting of the State Government today reviewed the option of taking NH-37 (erstwhile NH 53) in place of Imphal-Dimapur road for shipping in essential goods to the State in view of the continuing blockade for Sadar Hills and the UNC sponsored counter blockade.
The meeting presided by the Chief Secretary was attended by BRO officials, depot manager and officials of IOC Imphal Divisional Sales Office and officials of CAF&PD Department.
Taking into account the hardships being endured by truck drivers while transporting goods on NH-37 due to its deplorable condition, the State Government officials asked the BRO to assign a responsible official and also to give his contact number for necessary and immediate correspondence as and when any portion of the highway breaks down and become impassable for trucks.
On their part, the BRO officials expressed strong desire to reduce traffic volume on NH-37 so that development/repairing work of the same highway can be taken up in full swing from October which is expected to herald the onset of dry season in the State.
The review meeting also discussed conducting spot verification of Jessami-Ukhrul section of NH-150 .
