Shillong, December 02 2013 :
Just two days after the public rally, the thirteen pro Inner Line Permit (ILP) groups Monday announced fresh agitation with three-day 'night road blockade' from December 4 to 6, as a mark of intensifying their stir to pressurize the state government to implement the ILP system to contain unabated influx into the state.
The 9 pm to 5 am night road blockade will be effective in all the eleven districts of the state, Khasi Students' Union (KSU) Vice President, Fredrick Kharmawphlang, said in a statement issued here on Monday.
Referring to the enormous crowd who in one voice had demanded for ILP on Saturday last, Kharmawphlang said, "If the state government still wishes to remain adamant and choose to ignore the voice of the majority we would intensify our stir come what may till a mechanism (ILP) is put in place" .
He said there is no turning back and they have already chalked out their future course of action which would be implemented as soon as the examination of the different schools are over, adding, "This is a movement of the indigenous people for their rights and for their protection" .
He also cautioned, "Government should pay heed to demand of the indigenous people and implement the ILP immediately, failing which the state is going to burn and it is only the state government that will have to take the responsibility" .
He further stated that the groups will keep 'fighting' till government succumbs to their demand, and appealed to all stakeholders to extend their full support and cooperation to the movement.
