CCpur, November 28 2016:
Within days of the Government notifying the creation of a new sub-division under Singngat AC, several groups have lamented the action saying it lacks consultation and popular consent, with some seeking exclusion, while others called for rechristening the sub-division.
Earlier in the day, a group of village chiefs along with numerous villagers took out a protest rally till the Deputy Commissioner's office to air their grievances.
A memorandum signed by 13 village chiefs and detailing the reasons why they choose to be excluded from the newly created Suangdoh sub-division was handed over.
The chiefs of Buhsau, Molbungjang, Hangsum, Allusingtam, Pakmual, Tonglon (T), Zabellei, Behiang, Mualjin, Maukot, Suanphu, Tuimanjang and Hiangmual in their memo claimed that their villages are not contiguous with Suangdoh which is under Lungthul circle of Singngat sub-division.
Besides, these villages are located within different ADC Constituencies and need to first pass through Singngat sub-divisional headquarters to reach Suangdoh thereby causing administrative, transportation and communication inconveniences.
They also provided the distances of their villages from the existing sub-divisional headquarters as against the distances from the newly sub-divisional headquarters.
Meanwhile members of the Lungthul sub-division demand committee also convened a press meet later in the day and declared that they will have no option but to start an intense form of agitation if the Government fails to rechristen the sub-division from Suangdoh to Lungthul.
The committee claimed to have petitioned the MLA concerned and the Chief Minister on the issue before and after the Government notification.
As request to name the sub-division Lungthul in accordance with the Government identifying the area as Lungthul in the VLW circle as well as in the ADC Constituency since Manipur attained Statehood, was disregarded the committee said they have no option but to issue a deadline of 5 days, beginning today, for the Government to accept its case.
The members also underscored their disappointment with Singngat MLA and accused him of duplicity.
