Imphal, November 28 2016:
President of Manipur Congress Committee (MPCC) TN Haokip has claimed that people are facing insurmountable hardship ever since Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the demonetisation of Rs 500 and 1000 currency notes on November 8 .
At a sit in protest organised by Congress MLAs and activists in front of the MPCC office today, Haokip accused Modi of acting according to his own fleeting whims without any consideration or thoughts about the people.
He said that it was unethical for the Government of a democratic country to demonetise the currency notes without seeking the opinion of the public.
Haokip pointed out that poor people have been hit the hardest by the demonetisation move and there have been frequent cases of violence and untoward incidents happening all around as people form never ending queues in front of banks and ATMs.
He said," The incident of enraged people destroying banks due to shortage of cash easily shows that the move taken by the Prime Minister is not for the betterment of the people but to give suffering to the masses" .
If the move had been thoroughly considered before hand, then it would not have caused such inconveniences to the people.
It would have been far better if they had distributed the new Rs 500 currency notes first instead of the Rs 2000 notes, he added.
