Tamenglong Blackout :: Office of Power Dept locked up in protest

Tamenglong, September 26 2013:
With people of Tamenglong district literally living on darkess due to failure of electricity supply since Aug 26, members of Zeliangrong Youth Front, Tamenglong zone on Tuesday locked up the office of the Electricity Department to register their protest.
Informing that this is the first phase of protest, the aggrieved, ZYF members have also warned of taking recourse to more intense form of agitation if the power supply is not resume in Tamenglong district within the within next two/ three days.
The electric supply which went off since 26 August 2013 has not been resumed in Tamenglong district till today.
Due to lack of electric current in the district, mobile phones have remained switch off for long and the service of BSNL telecom, District Hospital, Computer Learning Centre Tamenglong and many institutions which depend on electric current have been hit hard.
Even though rich people have their own generators to generate power, it is the poor people who have suffered the most.
The absence of electricity supply for the last so many days have also affected the students in preparation for their unit examinations which are going on as well as for the upcoming promotion or
final exams.
Speaking to Hueiyen Lanpao, Romila Panmei, a resident of Ward No.V Tamenglong, said that she has been spending at least two packages of candle in one night to keep her house lit.
Adim Kamei, Manager of Ganphiu Offset Printer, Tamenglong said that he too has been facing a hard times due to lack of electric current in the district and he spent 10 liters of fuel to run his generator.
But still he can't work to the satisfaction of the customers.
Meanwhile, Zeliangrong Baudi, Manipur has questioned why all the three MLAs from Tamenglong are doing despite the fact the people have been suffering a lot from absence of power supply since 26 August, 2013 .
Baudi demanded that the Electricity Department should not collect tax for the period there is no electricity supply.
On the other hand, power station at Tamenglong and electricity department offices were running under pathetic condition due to government apathy so much so that there are no official as their respective place of postings.
Thus, the people do not know where to go for help.
