RKL demands full-time Ukhrul ZEO, HMs in 28 schools

In the wake of non-availability of a full-fledged Zonal Education Office (ZEO) in Ukhrul, Raphei Katamnao Long (RKL) has urged the state government to immediately look into the matter while pointing out that there is a failure in the administration of district education office.
RKL president Rs.Kapangsing said that the Ukhrul district has been without a full-fledged ZEO for the last six months and owing to this, the education sector has been affected by divergent problems.
"There are scores of lacunae in the district education office in terms of administration and maintenance.
The staffs are also neglecting their official duties," he stated.
"The present ZEO in-charge is not fit and not the right person to take charge..." alleged the student body.
RKL demanded immediate replacement of the incumbent ZEO in-charge and appoint a full-fledged head from among the senior and competent officials.
"There are many senior headmasters and deputy inspectors of school.
Then, why were they ignored from being appointed as ZEO," it asked.
The body also pointed out that as many as 28 high schools in northern areas of Ukhrul are running without a full-fledged headmaster and assistant headmaster.
It also alleged that teachers without Bed degree are being given charge in these schools.
In certain high schools in Kuirei, Poi, Kharasom and New Tusom village, the RKL went on to point out that there are huge shortfalls of teachers.
The respective villages are utilising locals to sustain the schools, it added.
The organisation said it would like to draw the attention of Education Minister Okendro, who they say has been assuring reforms in education sector of the state, to look into the matters prevailing in the hill district of Ukhrul.
Those schools without adequate teachers and full-time headmaster, it stated, may be compelled to shut down.
"Unless the prevailing problems are resolved soon, the RKL may step into the situation" .
