Non local woman murder case; boyfriend arrested by police

Imphal, July 22 2019:
A team of Imphal West district police solved the murder case of anon local woman at Chingmeirong Lei - Ingkhol cemetery and arrested a 31 year old man, reportedly the boyfriend of the deceased, from the same locality.
Briefing media persons at Imphal West SP conference hall today evening, the district SP, K Meghachandra, said that on getting information about the presence of a dead body (female) at Chingmeirong Lei Ingkhol cemetery which was found by some passers-by yesterday, a team of Lamphel police registered a sou moto case for investigation and cordoned off the area as it was highly suspected that the woman had been murdered by some unknown assailant (s) .
Investigation was launched immediately under the supervision of Clay Khongsai, IGP Zone I, who also visited the spot and all possible angles were explored and multiple teams were formed and eventually, the boyfriend of the victim was arrested from the same locality late in the evening yesterday.
During police interrogation, the arrested individual revealed that he and victim had been having an affair from some time back and the crime occurred after an argument broke out between them in connection with their marriage proposal.
The SP however, did not reveal the identity of the accused persons due to the present situation of the locality as a result of the murder.
He further said that due to the co-operation and support extended by the locals of Lei Ingkhol, the case was able to solved in such a short period of time.
The SP said that forming of JACs in regard to such similar incidents and also launching agitation for their demands often creates inconveniences while solving cases and appealed to all to extend support in the inves1 tigation taken up by police for delivering justice.
He also appealed to the general public not to disclose the identity of the victims of rape and sexual assault.
The SP further highlighted that the another alarming trend in the State is the use of mobile phones by minors which has led to many unwanted incidents and as such he appealed to the people to monitor the use of mobile phone by minors and youths and stressed on the need to give proper counselling to them as well.
The accused individual was produced before the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal East today and remanded into police custody till July 28 .
