In continuation ofthe regular campaign, Save Loktak, Know Our Lake (Loktak Kansi) which initiated from July 8, The Good Karma Foundation Thanga organised the campaign at Thanga Karang islandand its adjoining areas, in collaboration with Thanga Island Boat Association (KIB A) yesterday.
A press release issued by GK Foundation president stated that as part of the campaign, plastics weighing around 60 kgs were recovered/collected apart from raising awareness about proper disposal and cleanliness in the area to save the lake and promote tourism in the State.
The organisations have further urged the locals and the visiting people including tourists to use the garbage bin kept at Karang Mange parking properly and with care.
It asserted that the present scenario of Loktak lake is because of the garbage and filth dumped by villagers and locals at rivers and streams which eventually fall into the lake and also because of the construction of Itrhai barrage.
