Govt working on action plan

The Water Resources Department has started formulating an action plan to harvest rain water in 23 lakes/wetlands so as to overcome the issue of insufficient rainfall.
Notably, Manipur usually receives around 1400 mm of rainfall in a year.
Restoration of the 23 selected lakes/wetlands to their pristine conditions would enable harvest and store rain water for different purposes, said an official source.
The lakes/wetlands which the department has been working to restore to their pristine conditions are Pumlen/Khoidum/Lamjaopat, Ikop/Kharung-pat, Loushipat, Waithou/Pumlenpat, Awongbikhongpat, Ushoipokpipat, Sanapat, Uttrapat, Tangkhapat, Karampat, Lamphelpat, Yaralpat, Zeliad Lake, Heingangpat, Jaimengpat, Khayang Kachophung, Lamphel Choipat, Khamlangpat, Lairam Maril, Irong Nalla and Irum.
Meanwhile, the department has also started a study on restoring natural springs located at different parts of the State, said the source.
