Imphal, September 23 2014:
The Vice-president and the secretary of All Manipur Canoeing & Kayaking Association (AMCKA) were reportedly assaulted by a gunman inside Imphal Police Station yesterday.
While talking to reporters on Tuesday, AMCKA president Yambem Laba said Jyotin Waikhom who is said to be a 'self-styled' president of the association should take responsibility if association's vice-president and secretary encounter life attempt again in future.
Yambem Laba described yesterday's incident wherein AMCKA vice-president T Dushanta and secretary T Naresh were reportedly assaulted in Imphal Police Station by a gunman named Senjam Somorjit, who is a former militant.
Laba said Senjam Somorjit, who is said to be a private gunman/bodyguard of Jyotin Waikhom, attacked Dushanta and Naresh and even threatened to kill them with a gun in Imphal Police Station.
He called the incident unfortunate.
Dushanta and Naresh were in the police station in connection with a police complaint filed by two members of AMCKA, M Kumar and Th.Indira regarding alleged forging of their signatures by Jyotin Waikhom during a recent general body meeting of the association.
Laba said it was quite unexpected that the police personnel present inside Imphal Police Station refused to intervene when the two AMCK leaders were being attacked by Somorjit who is also said to be a former militant.
Following the incident, he said, Dushanta and Naresh filed a complaint at the police station yesterday urging for investigation into the incident.
Laba demanded that the police should file an FIR over the incident.
He also warned that the association will approach High Court of Manipur and Supreme Court if the police fail to ascertain if the gun held by Somorjit was a licensed one.
