Painting competition held

A painting competition on the theme 'Role of Museum' was held at Manipur State Museum Auditorium today.
The competition is said to have been organised as part of the 45th Foundation Day celebration of the Manipur State Museum which was also held at the same place.
The competition was participated by 37 students in Group-A (Class 5 to 8) and 17 students in Group-B (Class 9 to 12) .
Reportedly, prizes for the position holders from Group-A included cash prizes of Rs 2000, 1500 and 1000 along with a certificate each.

While speaking as the chief guest of the function, former Principal, Imphal Art College, Th Tombi Singh recalled that former Prime Minister of India Indira Gandhi inaugurated the Manipur Museum in 1961 .
He asserted further that the inclusion of a chapter about Manipur Museum in school books has made the school children more interested in visiting the Museum.
"We must try our best to make people particularly young students understand the importance of museum and its roles in preserving the historical artefacts which are the symbol of human civilization", he said.
Consultant to the State Government Dr RK Nimai also attended the programme.
