Ten days Gandhi Shilp Bazar mela wraps up

The ten days Gandhi Shilp Bazar mela, organised by Manipur Handloom and Handicrafts Development Corporation Limited, Paona Bazar, concluded at GM hall today.
The mela, which was sponsored by Development Commissioner for Handicrafts, Ministry of Textiles, GoI, was attended by Th Rajen, Assistant Director (HC) Handicrafts Service Centre, Development Commissioner, GoI as the chief guest, E Jeeten, MHHDC Ltd general manager as president and M Ibohal, Assistant Director WSC as guest of honour.
Altogether 60 stalls were opened and women weavers holding Pehchan card and artisans from outside the State participated in the mela.
Th Rajen, while speaking at the occasion, said that the mela was organised successfully although the mela was closed for two days owing to the State issues.
He maintained that some of the furniture items, which were brought by artisans from Assam, were sold but many unsold items had to be taken back which is quite unfortunate.
Informing that the mela is organised across the country, he added that the mela could not display all the handloom and handicraft items as the event was organised within a day.
Th Rajen maintained that a ten days handloom mela will be conducted at Nagaland from March 21 in which the respective organiser has asked at least 10 State artisans to participate, however, only nine people have enrolled so far.
He then appealed all to take part in the mela.
He maintained that a mela opening 30 stalls will be organised in Bishnupur district soon while urging all weavers, artisans to produce only original handloom and handicrafts items.
