Imphal, March 11 2019:
Manipur University Students Union (MUSU) has expressed deep concern over the rampant disposal of waste materials at Heijingang bridge, in front of Manipur University main gate.
A press release issued by MUSU today mentioned that despite the rampant and unchecked dumping of waste materials from households and commercial sources in the said area, the authority concerned has turned a blind eye to the situation.
Stating that the situation has become totally unhygienic and potentially dangerous to the health of the university community, MUSU urged the locals and the shopkeepers to contemplate in the issue and find a pragmatic solution, keeping in mind the dangers it will create if the practice of dumping the wastes continues unchecked.
It further cautioned that necessary and strict actions should be taken up by the authority concerned if any person is caught in the act of resorting to such behaviour in the future.
On the other hand, MUSU continued that the lack of a road divider in front of MU has posed a serious safety hazard to the commuters.
There have been several cases of accidents at the said place due to the unregulated crossing, MUSU stated, appealing to the Transport Department and the authorities concerned to look into the matter at the earliest.
